“What have I done?”: SLEEPING With a Marvel Star Sent a DRUNK Jennifer Lawrence on a Mother of All Guilt Trips

Filming intimate scenes can be a sensitive issue even for the most seasoned A-listers in the industry, let alone a rookie. However, sometimes even the most experienced stars can suffer from cold feet when they have to rise up to the occasion, and Jennifer Lawrence definitely had a similar experience when portraying the role of Aurora Lane in the science fiction movie, Passengers.

Jennifer Lawrence opens up about her intimate scene from Passengers

Morten Tyldum’s Passengers revolves around the story of two people who are on a spaceship with thousands of people but they are awakened almost 90 years early from their induced hibernation. Jennifer Lawrence who portrayed the role of Aurora Lane in the movie had to do an intimate scene in the movie with Chris Pratt who portrayed the role of Jim Preston.

As Lawrence once revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress was very nervous about the filming of an intimate scene in Passengers as this was the first adult scene she had to do in her career as an actress. Talking about the experience of filming the scene, Lawrence said,

“I had my first real s*x scene a couple of weeks ago and it was really bizarre, it was really weird. Everything was done right, it wasn’t anybody’s fault, nobody did anything wrong, it’s just a bizarre experience.”

Jennifer Lawrence further revealed that she got hammered in order to deal with the awkwardness of filming the scene and even that did not help her. She even mentioned how she felt guilty of kissing Chris Pratt on screen as he is a married man. She said,

“I got really, really drunk, but then that led to more anxiety. When I got home I was like, ‘what have I done?’…It was going to be my first time kissing a married man, and guilt is the worst feeling in your stomach. And I knew it was my job, but I couldn’t tell my stomach that.

“It was just very vulnerable. You don’t know what’s too much. You want to do it real. You want everything to be real. That was the most vulnerable I’ve ever been.”

Despite feeling way too awkward, Jennifer Lawrence was able to stomach the feeling and do her job flawlessly as a professional.

Chris Pratt describes how an actor should minimize the awkwardness in such intimate scenes

Unlike Jennifer Lawrence who was a complete wreck before feeling the intimate scene on Passengers, Chris Pratt tried his best to stay professional and minimize the awkwardness for himself and Lawrence. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly’s The Jess Cagle Interview, Pratt opened up about the filming of the intimate scene from passengers and said,

“I don’t want to make generalizations based on gender, but I feel the responsibility falls on me [to make my costar comfortable], and I’ve been in that situation a couple times.

Essentially it’s your job to just minimize the discomfort by, you know, making sure there’s nobody else on set than is required, having a closed set, periodically checking in, and just doing everything you can to assure the person you’re with that they’re okay.”

Chris Pratt further added that despite what it looks like on screen, the filming of the scene is not sexy at all and it is just awkward a lot of times but the actors just have to realize that it is all a part of their job.

Passengers was not a massive critical success but fans and critics did appreciate the stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt for their performance in the movie. The movie still managed to become a massive commercial success as it went on to gross almost $303 million against a budget of $150 million.

Passengers is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
