All Chiefs have retained attorneys and a report on the accident will be released Tuesday, according to CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson .

Rice’s attorney, Royce West, released a statement Monday:

On behalf of Rashee Rice, his thoughts were with those affected by Saturday’s car accident. Rashee is cooperating with local authorities and will take all necessary steps to responsibly address this situation.

But who exactly is Rashee Rice? Here’s everything to know about the Chiefs playmaker as he deals with legal issues during the 2024 NFL season.

Rashee Rice there?

Rice is a 23-year-old player who plays for the Chiefs. He was SMU’s second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and quickly developed into Patrick Mahomes’ top receiving target during Kansas City’s Super Bowl 58 run.

More recently, Rice has made headlines for his actions off the field. Dallas police are looking for him in connection with a large, multi-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday.

A vehicle believed to be registered to or leased to Rice was involved in the collision on North Central Expressway. The occupants of the two cars that caused the six-car crash – a Corvette and a Lamborghini – fled the scene.

Rice has retained an attorney and released a statement saying he is cooperating with authorities in the investigation of the crash.

Where does Rashee rice come from?

Rice was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but grew up in North Richland Hills, Texas, 30 miles west of Dallas.

Rice played college football at SMU, located in University Park, Texas, just outside of Dallas and 31 miles from his hometown. So his roots are in the area and it makes sense that Dallas would be one of the places for him to stomp his feet during the season.

Rashee Rice Super Bowl stats

Rice played his first NFL season in 2023 and he flourished as the Chiefs’ No. 1 receiver. The 55th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft recorded 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 regular season games.

The Chiefs rookie followed up his regular season success by hauling in 26 passes for 262 yards and a touchdown in four postseason games. He had eight total touchdowns in Super Bowl 58 (six catches, two runs) for 41 yards.

Rice is expected to be a 1,000-yard threat for the Chiefs in his second season. That could now be in jeopardy amid uncertainty over his legal status.

Rashee Rice salary for 2024

Rice is set to have a $1,045,237 base salary for the captains next season, per Spotrac.com . His cap hit would be $1,476,184 because a $430,947 bonus prorated among his $1,723,788 signing bonus would be factored into each of the four years under contract his.

Rice’s limited snaps rank 93rd in the NFL among receivers for the 2024 season. That makes him a valuable commodity and someone who won’t be easy to replace if necessary — even in preloaded receiver class.

Rice won’t be expensive at any point in his next three seasons with the Chiefs. As long as he’s on the field, the deal is considered a team-friendly one.

But his availability is in doubt amid the allegations against him, so suffice it to say that Sheriffs will be closely monitoring the outcome of this case.
