On Wednesday, Patrick Mahomes‘s father, Patrick Mahomes Sr. (Pat Mahomes), was formally indicted on a felony charge. He could face up to 10 years in prison as a result of driving while intoxicated, dating back to February 3.

Texas prosecutors listed that the 53-year-old was allegedly caught with open containers of alcoholic beverages in his car. They further noted that Mahomes Sr. admitted to consuming alcohol prior to hitting the freeway.

Besides spending 10 years in jail, Mahomes Sr. also faces the possibility of paying a $10,000 fine. TMZ reported that this was the same amount he had to pay during his bail from prison in February.

Shortly before Patrick Mahomes played in his fourth Super Bowl since entering the NFL, his father ended up in Smith County Jail in Texas.

I don’t really want to get into [it] too much, but he’s doing good for whatever the situation is. It’s a family matter. I’ll just keep it for the family.

When asked about his father’s arrest, Patrick Mahomes said

Fortunately for Kansas City Chiefs fans, the six-time Pro Bowl quarterback did not lose an inch of concentration on February 11. He finished the game with 34 completions for 333 yards and two touchdowns, winning back-to-back Super Bowls.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. has faced multiple DWI charges in the past

If the ‘intoxication’ charges were an isolated incident, then perhaps the law would have been slightly lenient towards Mahomes Sr. However, he has been a routine offender, facing troubles with the law several times in the past.

Back in 2016, Mahomes Sr. was arrested for public intoxication during a game between Texas Tech and TCU. Mahomes was the quarterback of the Red Raiders, who have a great history against the Horned Frogs. Not only that, in 1994, he also faced DUI charges after a car accident.

Like his son, Pat Mahomes was also an athlete in his youth. He played for the Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates in Major League Baseball from 1992 to 2003.

Mahomes Sr. has three children. Besides being the father of the Chiefs all-star quarterback, Pat also has another son named Jackson Mahomes with his ex-wife, Randi Martin. He also has a daughter named Zoe Mahomes from a relationship with Anika Cooper, whom he met after divorcing Martin.

Jackson also had his fair share of troubles. After allegedly forcing himself on the owner of the restaurant, which landed him in jail.
