The Chiefs were the first preference of receiver Stefon Diggs, not the Texans.

Lately, there has been a lot of buzz around how the Buffalo Bills blocked Stefon Diggs’ trade move to the reigning Super Bowl Champions, which eventually landed him with the CJ Stroud-led Houston Texans.

While many wonder about the reason behind such a move by the Bills, Nick Wright gave an interesting take on the whole thing.

As NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms reported, the Bills intentionally hindered Stefon Diggs’ move to the Kansas City Chiefs, given the fact they were the receiver’s first preference.

Also, the Chiefs are available in the market looking for a strong receiver to solidify their offense, as they had one of the weakest receiving squads last season– the year they ironically won the grand Super Bowl trophy.

While talking on the subject, the Chiefs fanatic addressed the long-standing rivalry between the two teams, on the recent episode of the First Things First show.

He highlighted the Bills’ mistake at the 2017 NFL Draft when they traded Patrick Mahomes, arguably the greatest quarterback, to the Chiefs.

The Bills have held onto this belief that their biggest competition is Kansas City. But they are not in the Chiefs wait for class anymore, if they ever were. And instead, they strengthen someone who actually is in their lineup sight– Houston Texans. Pretending that they are still competing with the Chiefs, they strengthened a team that is now actually competing with them for the opportunity to lose to the Chiefs.

Stefon Diggs’ behavior sparks controversial trade decision

While there have been many debates on whether the Bills’ decision to trade a star receiver such as Diggs for mere fifth and sixth-round picks of the 2025 and 2024 NFL Draft, the franchise seemed to be confident about their decision.

They clarified that it was a well-thought-out decision and a necessary step in their rejuvenation phase.

Wright also highlighted how the Bills have lost capital while trading Diggs and the reason to take such big action with visible consequences is because of his blunt behavior towards his teammates in the locker room.

The three-time Pro Bowler unfortunately tends to criticise his teammates in public more than he would defend them.

That’s why the sports analyst boldly claimed they should have traded him to their rivals, the Chiefs to poison their locker room.
