Maye is predicted to be a top-six pick in the NFL Draft.

Ex-Steelers RB Merril Hoge bizarrely describes Drake Maye as ‘the kind of player that will get you fired’

The NFL Draft is a little over two weeks away, and the special evening will provide an opportunity for a fresh class of athletes to fulfill the dreams of a lifetime.

For the quarterback class of this year, the potential is immense, and the talent pool may make this draft one of the best ones fans have seen in a while. One of the QBs in the draft who is considered to be a dark horse candidate is Drake Maye.

The North Carolina quarterback will be a top-10 pick, but there is no guarantee that he can crack the top 5. While many argue that he has a lot of potential, former ESPN analyst and NFL fullback Merril Hoge is of a contradictory view. He believes that the team or general manager who drafts him should be prepared to look for a new job.

Drake Maye is the kind of player that will get you fired. Especially if you draft him in the top five or top three, he's going to get you fired. People think his athleticism will translate but people want him to run and they will bust him up. He is not athletic enough. If he doesn't get down and learn how to do that, he won't last until Week 10.

Merrill Hoge believes Drake Maye is comparable to Malik Willis

Maye’s strength is his ability to be mobile. However, Hoge does not see his talent set as being worthy of being picked within the first five picks.

He further made a comparison between Drake Maye and Malik Willis; he sees the same amount of erraticism in both players. Hoge criticized the quarterback for his erratic behavior and called him out for his decision-making skills.

While Maye has made a lot of memorable plays and has the potential to be convincing enough for some general managers to take a gamble on him, he is going to end up costing them their job.

The talent pool is immense this time, and with stars such as Caleb WilliamsJayden DanielsJ.J. McCarthy, and Michael Penix Jr. in the mix, teams will have a hard time making the right decision.

The number of QBs available in the draft class will also be the reason for Maye’s stock tanking. There will be three teams that will opt for a quarterback in the draft. Out of the teams that have the top 3 picks in the draft, the Bears will select Caleb Williams.

The guessing begins from pick number two onwards, as the Washington Commanders and the New England Patriots both require quarterbacks and will have multiple options to choose from. Regardless of what Hoge has to say, it is hard to predict how a player will fare in the NFL until fans see them in action.
