The 10th seeded Golden State Warriors are in trouble after losing against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“You can’t expect to ride Steph,” Steve Kerr defends limiting Steph Curry’s minutes amidst fight for 10th seed

Steve Kerr reacts to giving limited minutes to Stephen Curry in a loss.

The Golden State Warriors lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. The loss will negatively affect the team, as they are the 10th seed in the Western Conference. The Warriors need to get consecutive wins to stay in the play-in spot. Every loss will affect the team from here onwards considering they are one loss away from being on the 11th loss.

Warriors fans were upset about Steve Kerr‘s coaching tonight. As the team was losing, the head coach played the team’s star player Stephen Curry for only 30 minutes. Curry’s 31-point performance in those minutes shows the importance of the guard on the court. The player also had limited minutes in the final quarter where the Timberwolves scored 36 points to win the game.

Therefore, it was inevitable that fans and reporters would seek answers from Coach Kerr. In the post-game press conference, the HC was asked about Curry’s limited minutes. He responded by saying that the coaching staff did not want to overplay the star. Further, the reporter asked if Curry entering the last quarter late was the deciding point in the loss. However, Kerr was very clear about his decision as he did not want to put pressure on the player.

The coach explained that the team has enough good players to not put the entire responsibility of winning on Curry alone. Further, the coach gave a reality check about relying on Curry for wins.

We can't expect to just ride Steph game after game after game.

He also mentioned the 36-year-old playing intense under pressure minutes in the last few games. “We’ve put the burden of this franchise on his shoulders for 15 years,” the HC added. Kerr believes that playing Curry for a few more minutes will not affect the team’s chances of winning.

Warriors are on the verge of getting kicked out from the playoff race

During this month, the Golden State Warriors have been in trouble on multiple occasions. The team started showing hope last month as they only lost three of the 14 games they played. However, the team is having a downfall in March. The 2022 champions are performing quite the opposite as the team is 5-7 this month.

In the past two months, the team switched from the 9th and 10th rank in the Western Conference but has not gone past that. However, after Sunday’s loss, the team could get kicked out of the play-in spot. Despite still being in the 10th spot, the Warriors only have one less loss than the 11th-seeded Houston Rockets. But they are three more wins away from the 9th-seeded Los Angeles Lakers. This decreases their chances of playing in the playoffs.

However, it seems as if the team and the veterans including Curry and Draymond Green are not fazed by the rankings as they are focusing on playing well. If the Warriors find momentum and have a winning streak in the current road wins, the possibility of them moving away from the last spot goes up. Unfortunately, If the team loses multiple games, the Warriors’ season will end early.
