The fan theory suggests that he never showcased his ultimate strength since it could have destroyed the entire planet.

 

In his prime, he could have easily defeated Gol D. Roger. People might disagree with it since Gol D. Roger was also pretty strong and blocked Whitebeard’s attack. But it was not the true extent of his abilities. His Gura Gura no Mi can cause quakes, which lead to landslides and tsunamis. In the manga, the Devil Fruit bubble hardly covered his entire arm, yet it was strong enough to change the geography of the Marineford.

The Gura Gura no Mi would cause incredible damage if Whitebeard coats it with his Conqueror’s Haki.
