ESPN’s ‘SportsCenter’ host John Anderson’s run is nearing an end, with the longtime sports personality set to retire later this year after 25 years.
Anderson announced his plan to retire when his contract with the company runs out in June, disclosing as much on his ‘Inside Wisconsin’ show.
While he is poised to step away, Anderson will continue to work on various programs for ESPN, including coverage of the Boston and New York Marathons.
“My contract runs out at ESPN at the end of June and I have decided that will be the end,” he said. “I’m gonna leave the company. I’m gonna sort of retire from ‘SportsCenter.’ I’m going to get to do a few track and field things. I’m going to get to continue to do the Boston Marathon and the New York Marathon, which I love. And some NCAA track meets and some SEC stuff. I am incredibly excited about that. It’s been a good run.“

The announcement prompted several responses from the world of sports media. You can see some of the reactions below:
John was one of the most talented writers in the history of Sportscenter. He could be clever, witty, serious or somber. Whatever the story required. And I never did a show with him that didn’t include several belly laughs. It was always fun. We will miss him. https://t.co/YJE5llswUJ

John told me this news a couple of weeks ago. I’m sad. There’s never been a better Sportscenter writer than John Anderson. Midwest to the core. Funny, witty, clever. We had a great run last decade on 11pm. We pushed each other. And, oh, the inside jokes. Glad he got to go out on… https://t.co/nQ5p3MoKiF

John Anderson is a legend who I had the honor to work with as a player being interviewed and as a colleague covering track and field. Always fun, always informative and knows how to make the moment sing to the viewer. Thank you for being you John. You are an inspiration to us all https://t.co/AYThwnOX2X
