In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Zendaya provided insights into the film’s thematic depth and the nuances of sensuality within “Challengers.”

While the interviewer mentioned, that Challengers is “a film about s*x, but the s*x is not really seen,” Zendaya commended director Luca Guadagnino for his skill in conveying sensuality and desire through subtle gestures and tension-filled glances. Zendaya remarked, “There’s so much in just glances. The tension builds. Not having the release is a good thing sometimes.”

Furthermore, Zendaya also delved into her decision to take on the project, emphasizing the layered nature of the characters and the complexities that lie beneath their exterior personas.

She explained, “There’s the scene on paper and then there’s the scene happening underneath. Every character is living out a whole different life from what they’re maybe expressing. I think that’s true for every human being.”

Moreover, her co-stars Mike Faist and Josh O’Conner echoed Zendaya’s sentiments, highlighting the film’s unique and genre-defying nature. Faist described the movie as “This [movie] is not an easy thing to take on. It’s genre-less. I have trouble explaining it.” and emphasized its genre ambiguity.
