Making a surprisingly weak entry, which brought the weekend total to a lower-than-expected scenario, the two movies failed to snatch Sydney Sweeney’s position as box office Queen.

Monkey Man and The First Omen Make a Weak Entry

After Dev Patel’s Monkey Man was pushed by Jordan Peele for a theatrical release under Universal Pictures, as he believed in the film’s potential, the movie was expected to perform well at the box office. However, having a Cinemascore of B+ (mediocre) when the film hit the theatres, Monkey Man surprisingly made a weak entry.

Expected to revive the box office alongside another fresh title from Disney – The First Omen, Dev Patel’s Monkey Man unfortunately brought the weekend total to a lower-than-expected collection. The surprisingly weak results of both films suggest an already-weak April sliding toward a further worse scenario, as per IndieWire.

Perhaps overpowered by the second weekend of Warner Bros’ Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Universal’s Monkey Man kept steady toward a $10.1M opening, as per Deadline reports.

However, Disney’s The First Omen appears to be blemished with an $8.4M opening. Although Dev Patel‘s movie is going stronger compared to the Disney film, they both made disgraceful reports, especially after optimistic predictions.

Sydney Sweeney Achieved a Remarkable Box Office Milestone

Meanwhile, it seems no one can topple Sydney Sweeney at her box office game, as the actress bagged a remarkable collection with her horror flick Immaculate and her romcom Anyone But You. Releasing the films one after another with low expectations towards their performance, Sweeney surprised fans as both of her films turned into silent hits.

Co-writer and director of Anyone But You, Will Gluck had previously predicted in a joking manner, that the film would be the last romantic comedy to be released by a major studio. And shockingly his sarcastic prediction seemed to come true, as Sydney Sweeney’s movie began with an unspectacular $6M during the opening weekend.

However, soon, her romcom picked its pace at the box office and bagged $9.7M domestically by the third weekend. Gradually, as per Collider, Anyone But You bagged a worldwide total of approximately $216M, stunning everyone equally. Similarly, even her 2024 horror flick Immaculate, with a 71% RT rating has already recovered the estimated production budget of $9M, with its early global haul of $12M.

It seems the way Sydney Sweeney powered her films to a super good box office collection despite running low on hope, no one can topple her remarkable milestone. Single-handedly saving the box office with Immaculate and Anyone But You, Sweeney’s films appear to overpower Monkey Man and The First Omen.
