‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Receives Positive Filming Update

Netflix’s Addams Family spinoff, “Wednesday,” starring Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers, is set to begin production for its second season in Ireland in late April 2024.

The decision to film in Ireland comes after logistical challenges during the first season’s production in Romania. Jenna Ortega, who plays the titular character Wednesday Addams, will return for the second season and has also taken on a producer role, influencing the show’s development.

While details about the second season’s plot and full cast remain undisclosed, Netflix has extended the options on the main Season 1 actors, and scripts are currently being written.

The first season of “Wednesday” featured a cast including Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gwendoline Christie, Luis Guzmán, and Fred Armisen.

Fans will have to wait for more information about the second season, including returning and new cast members and the storyline.

“Wednesday” season two does not yet have a release date.

Wednesday Renewed for a Woeful Season 2: What We Know So Far

Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) has been put through the wringer. She’s been stalked by a bloodthirsty monster. Her Rave’N gown was ruined by red paint. (The normies couldn’t even spring for real blood?) And she’s had to brave the scariest threat of all: other teens. But things are looking up for Nevermore Academy’s most popular goth. Wednesday has officially been renewed for Season 2.

“We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore,” Wednesday Season 1 co-showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough exclusively told Tudum in January 2023. “We just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”

So what’s ahead for everyone’s favorite spooky teen detective? And will any new characters be joining Wednesday on her upcoming adventures? Keep reading for a complete Nevermore syllabus’s worth of Wednesday Season 2 news.

What is Wednesday Season 2 about?

When Wednesday Season 2 was renewed in January 2023, the series promised more “torture” ahead in an announcement video. Naturally — mystery writer Wednesday wouldn’t have it any other way.

“[Wednesday] sticks to her guns, and she’s not out to please anybody,” Ortega told Tudum in February 2023. “Which, as someone who used to be an immense people pleaser, I really respect.”

It’s clear Ortega isn’t the only one who’s come to admire Wednesday’s teenage take on the Addams family’s only daughter. In July 2023, the series was nominated for 12 Primetime Emmy Awards.

“It’s been incredible to create a show that’s connected with people across the world,” Millar and Gough said in January. “We’re thrilled to continue Wednesday’s torturous journey into Season 2.”

Who is in the Wednesday Season 2 cast?

Cast members Ortega, Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin), Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), and Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay) all stopped by Tudum: A Global Fan Event to talk Wednesday Season 2 — and spill a little bit about who you might spy alongside them in upcoming episodes. You can watch the video above.

Who is joining Wednesday Season 2?

Wednesday’s world — or, at least, family — is going to get a little bit bigger in Season 2. During Tudum: A Global Fan Event, Ortega, Doohan, Myers, and Sunday debated the spookiest Wednesday fan theories. Topics of discussion included the possible looming danger of Joseph Crackstone’s (William Houston) ring and a suspected mystery around Lurch’s (George Burcea) identity, though nothing is known about those things for certain. However, the cast did confirm one viewer hunch: A new Addams family member is on their way to Wednesday.

While Doohan says he and his co-stars have no idea which new Addams will darken the series’ door, that doesn’t mean they don’t have ideas. Ortega has her fingers crossed Cousin Itt will shuffle his way into Nevermore, while Doohan and Sunday agree they would love to meet Wednesday’s grandmother.

Just how big was Wednesday Season 1?

It’s no surprise Wednesday caught the attention of the Television Academy. The goth mystery broke the Netflix record for most hours viewed in a single week… twice. In the first week, it raked in 341.23 million hours viewed; in its second, 411.29 million hours viewed. And, although Wednesday herself loathes social media (or anything social, really), #WednesdayAddams is a star on TikTok and has amassed over 22 billion views — with millions of TikTokkers looking to replicate that “just-bitten” makeup look. Even Lady Gaga couldn’t deny the pull of Wednesday, posting her own version of the trendy “Blood Mary” dance. But that’s not the only music sensation the show’s responsible for — the Wednesday soundtrack reached No. 1 on the iTunes Soundtrack chart shortly after its launch. That’s Wednesday: always an overachiever.
