Harvey Weinstein is currently serving a twenty-three-year sentence in prison for r-pe and s-xual assault. Of course, this might not have been possible without the many prominent actresses who built up the courage to talk about the heinous acts of the disgraced producer, Angelina Jolie included.

After Harvey Weinstein tried to make unwanted and inappropriate advances against Angelina Jolie when she was just 21, the actress swore that she would never work with him ever again.

She stayed true to the promise she made herself, but when her then-partner Brad Pitt wouldn’t do the same, she got absolutely furious, rightly so.

Angelina Jolie’s Argument with Brad Pitt

Back in 2017, the New York Times released an investigation made against Harvey Weinstein and his horrible acts against women in the industry.

From Gwyneth Paltrow to Katherine Kendall, actresses came together to unmask Weinstein and bring his reality in front of everyone.

In an email to the NYT, Angelina Jolie wrote,

“I had a bad experience with Harvey Weinstein in my youth, and as a result, chose never to work with him again and warn others when they did. This behaviour towards women is in any field, any country is unacceptable.”

The “bad experience” took place when she starred in Playing by Heart, a film produced by Weinstein’s company, Miramax. In an interview with The Guardian, Jolie opened up about how she decided that that was the last time she’d work with the dishonored producer.

She revealed that she was offered a part in Martin Scorsese’s film, The Aviator, but turned it down due to Miramax’s involvement. However, she was deeply hurt when Brad Pitt didn’t follow in her footsteps and continued to work with the producer, despite Jolie’s awful experience.

“I was asked to do The Aviator, but I said no because he was involved. I never associated or worked with him again. It was hard for me when Brad did.” We fought about it. Of course it hurt.”

Pitt continued to work with Weinstein and played a role in Inglorious Basterds (2009) and Killing Them Softly (2012). Needless to say, Jolie was well within her rights to feel hurt and betrayed at the hands of Pitt.

Angelina Jolie’s First Husband Was a Lot More Supportive

While Pitt decided to continue his professional relationship with Weinstein and Miramax, Jolie revealed that her first husband, Jonny Lee Miller, had a much more appropriate reaction.

In the same interview with The Guardian, Jolie stated that when she talked about her encounter with Weinstein with Miller, he was a ton of help.

“It was beyond a pass, it was something I had to escape. I stayed away and warned people about him. I remember telling Jonny, my first husband, who was great about it, to spread the word to other guys – don’t let girls go alone with him.”

Jolie and Miller tied the knot in 1996 but unfortunately separated from each other just eighteen months later. The two were finally divorced in 2000, although they continue to be good friends.
