As the backlash continued, the actress eventually addressed the same, revealing how surprised she was over the same. Talking to Inverse, she revealed,

“It was something I voluntarily worked with a trainer to be fit for, was very much prepared for, and very much enjoyed [doing] — filming, executing, promoting.”

She recalled being an active participator in working on her character’s scene. She added,

“The feeling I shouldn’t have done it, or that it was exploitation, was confusing to me. There are many things in the world that are confusing. I put it down to one of those anomalies. I’m proud of that scene, and all the work I did.”

Despite many assuming that the scene was there to objectify her, she felt proud of her work. Even, film screenwriter, Damon Lindelof had personally acknowledged the backlash and issued an apology for the same.

The franchise has long cemented its legacy for its exploration of the sci-fi genre, gaining a devoted fandom globally.

However, the questionable scene created quite an uproar, leaving co-producer and co-writer, Damon Lindelof to take things into his hands.

He took to Twitter (now X) to acknowledge the issue and apologize for the same. He wrote via The Guardian,

“I copped to the fact that we should have done a better job of not being gratuitous in our representation of a barely clothed actress.”

Having mentioned Kirk’s shirtless scenes as examples, he added to be more mindful going ahead.

“We also had Kirk shirtless in underpants in both movies, [but I] do not want to make light of something that some construe as misogynistic. What I’m saying is I hear you, I take responsibility and will be more mindful in the future.”

He also addressed the same in an email to MTV via EW writing,

“Why is Alice Eve in her underwear, gratuitously and unnecessarily, without any real effort made as to why in God’s name she would undress in that circumstance? Well there’s a very good answer for that. But I’m not telling you what it is. Because… uh… MYSTERY?”

Despite the mixed reception from audiences and critics alike, Into Darkness was a commercial success, surging past over $467 million worldwide.
