Mary & George is the newest historical drama series starring Nicholas Galitzine and Julianne Moore. Based on the Countess of Buckingham and her rise to power by making her son seduce the king, the series is a dark and daring look at history. While Moore is as always spectacular, Galitzine too shines as George Villers.

Yet filming for the miniseries was not as grand as it looked on screen. As wonderful as the period costumes look, they ended up being the biggest adversity for Galitzine, who describes his time on set as nothing short of a war.

Nicholas Galitzine has been on the rise since he starred in Red, White & Royal Blue, and is back in another royal drama with Mary & George. Starring as King James I’s young lover, the actor, suffice to say, is brilliant in the series.

Although he is an excellent actor, it is his on-set injuries that make his performance even more commendable. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor revealed how he injured his ankle on the first day of the shoot and had no option but to continue shooting.

“There were these heeled shoes that you see characters wearing a lot. These stately homes have very slippery floors. While filming the scene in the first episode where I run and tackle this serving boy, my ankle slipped [and twisted] a full 90 degrees inward. I fractured my ankle and had to continue doing stunts the next couple days and then was dancing on it.”

Blaming it all on the glorious period costumes, the actor remarked how this was only one of the many injuries he had on the set.

“The same day [that I broke my ankle], one of my costars, in trying to hold me down, slammed my head into a table. So, I had a black eye and a broken ankle. Tony [Curran] head-butted me at one point. He also cut my chin open with one of his rings. I really went through the wars on this production.”

In spite of all these injuries and pain, Nicholas Galitzine bravely battled his way through and revealed he did not regret any of it. And it is his extreme dedication that proves what an amazing actor he truly is.

Nicholas Galitzine Had to Be on Sets Every Day Despite Being Injured

When an actor suffers an injury such as an ankle fracture, most would rather rest it out than continue shooting. But for Nicholas Galitzine, there was no option of rest, and he had to suffer through the pain to shoot Mary & George.

Since the Purple Hearts star had a lot to learn, from dancing to speaking French, Galitzine had to be on sets almost every day despite being injured (via Entertainment Weekly).

“I was basically on set every single day of this six-month shoot. Learning the dancing I had to do with a broken ankle. I was literally filming a dance sequence like three days after I broke my ankle, which is really difficult considering I’m actually not a dancer by trade either.”

Yet even with all the challenges, Galtizine remains dedicated to his craft as he explains that he couldn’t have been happier with the final results. Noting that none of his injuries were purposeful, the young actor remarks that, if anything, those experiences helped him understand his character better.
