Hollywood star Eiza González, who has appeared in the horror series, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, is often praised for her gorgeous appearance.

The entertainment industry often tends to have appearances determine someone’s success, and she has had enough of being reduced to her looks.

So much so, that González was inclined to take drastic measures to appear less attractive. In a recent interview, the actress spoke candidly about how difficult it has been for her to establish herself as more than just a pretty face.

Eiza González Desired Looking Less Attractive

To strive towards an attractive appearance is the norm. It is bizarre to discover that an attractive person genuinely wants to look less hot. In a new interview, Eiza González opened up on how Hollywood works and drove her to the point of altering her appearance to look different. This in itself is not as surprising but it must be noted that the Godzilla vs. The Kong actress wanted to make herself look less good.

Being a Latina woman in Hollywood has its challenges. The preconceived notions of the entertainment industry have made it difficult for González to book roles. The over-sexualization, which at times is almost pervasive, has prevented the actress from exploring her versatility as an actor.

The actress told InStyle magazine, that she is often labeled “sexy” but doesn’t take it as a compliment. She said:

“I just think it’s an overly sexualized idea of a Latin woman. It’s so disappointing and it’s so pathetic.”

González said that trying to shatter that image of hers “has been single-handedly the biggest challenge of my career.” She also observed,

“None of my white friends who were in the industry were getting that. It was just me. I remember being [told for] so many projects, ‘She’s too pretty for the role. She’s too hot for the role’. Then I’d just be like, ‘What is Margot Robbie? She’s the hottest, most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in my life!’”

Seeing her peers do well and not getting equal opportunities, González considered doing something drastic to her appearance.

Even with the awareness that people’s perceptions of her weren’t exactly about her, things took a toll on the 3 Body Problem actress (via InStyle magazine):

“I had an identity crisis for a very long time. I was like, ‘Do I shave my head? Do I make myself less attractive? Do I make myself more attractive? Do I not dress super-hot or do I dress super-hot or do I cover myself all the time?’”

This shows that looks, no matter good or bad, can always be an issue. More so, when someone works in an industry that gives so much importance to one’s appearance.

González will be seen playing Auggie Salazar in Netflix’s 3 Body Problem and starring in Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
