Jake Paul has hit back at Conor McGregor after the former UFC champion claimed interest in a fight between Mike Tyson and the YouTube personality is “low”.

Jake Paul fires back at Conor McGregor over controversial Mike Tyson fight comments

Tyson and Paul will feature in an event that will be streamed exclusively on Netflix on Saturday, July 20, 2024, with the bout taking inside the 80,000-seat capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The reaction to the announcement has been huge, to say the least, and speaking at the world premiere of Road House, Conor McGregor gave his thoughts on the match-up.

“Oh jeez,” McGregor said when asked about Tyson vs Paul. “It’s a bit strange, you know. The interest is low. I don’t know. I don’t understand it. I wish well for Mike [Tyson].”

Paul, as you can imagine, is far from pleased with McGregor’s take.

Speaking on his BS podcast, the 27-year-old said: “So Conor, you’re saying the interest is low for the fight but the last fight you announced there was a thousand articles written in a multi-day span, people talking about your last fight.

“In that same multiple-day span there was ten thousand articles written about this. No fight ever has done these numbers in terms of face-off views and Instagram reels.

“Just on our main pages alone, it’s like 50 or 60 million Instagram views on both of our posts. Not to mention every single other sports page posting it.”

Paul added: “This is in my mind the biggest fight the world will ever see. There’s no reason for them to be jealous, I get people are jealous but when the old heads like Conor are trying to hate it’s like, why are you trying to pull people down?”

Asked whether it will be bigger than McGregor’s fight with Floyd Mayweather – an event that generated 4.3 million buys in North America – Paul says it will viewed more than the second biggest PPV of all time.

“It’ll be more viewed, a thousand percent,” Paul said. “Obviously it’s free so we can’t compare pay-per-view numbers. The fight just had to make sense for the streaming platforms, there has to be a high allure.”
